Row over Gujjar episode continues relentlessly

The tussle between the Gujjar community and the Government of Rajasthan seems to be unending and it seems that it will pollute the blood more in the coming days. This reigning stalemate has further deteriorated with the unusual situation of 25 women protestors involved in the Gujjar-sponsored disturbances throughout the state.

The fates of these protestors are depending on the bail plea at the sessions court although their unconditional releases have already been demanded by the pertinent community. What is more the undisputed leader of the Gujjar community Kirori Singh Bainsla had already asserted that no meeting was possible without the release of these protestors. He also ruled out the prospect of the visit of any delegation to Jaipur for the second round of talks till the freeing of the women activists from the jail. It is to be noted that these women protestors were arrested on account of the non-bailable offence of damaging railway property.

Commenting on this S N Thanvi, special envoy of the state government when enquired by PTI said, "We are waiting for the decision of the Dausa sessions court regarding the bail of the arrested women." Mr. S N Thanvi, apart from this, was also asked several more questions. In regard to this, while replying to a fitting query, he said there was no such instruction from the state government regarding their suitable approaches provided the bail plea was rejected by the relevant court.

It should be remembered that, some days back, Bainsla had consented over the visit of a Gujjar delegation to the state capital to recommence talks with the government over the ST status issue. But the impasse over the release of women activists has halted everything. Now his demand is the unconditional release of the women and this condition has to be fulfilled if the government wants to enact any form of truce.

The women activists were arrested on allegation of damaging railway property during the 'Gujjar rail roko agitation' in Dausa district last week.

There was a registration of case under an assortment of sections of IPC and the Railway Act against them.
